Autism Topics Covered By Monarch House

Over the past year, Monarch House has been keeping you up-to-date on topics relating to some of the autism services we offer in Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto, and Waterloo, Ontario. We have also kept you abridged on the various types of autism therapy we employ to help you and your child with autism find their way to greater independence.

We’ve organized our content for you so that it’s easier to do a quick search.

Autism Therapy

At Monarch House we offer an interdisciplinary mix of therapies including: behavioural therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychotherapy. In our posts we have covered: occupational therapy for children with autism, behavioiural therapy for children with autism, and speech therapy for children with autism.

While we do have a speech pathologist on staff and a behaviour analysts for behavioural therapy and challenging behaviour in children with autism, we do NOT have animal assisted therapy for children with autism, art therapy for children with autism, or music and movement therapy for children with autism (although we have written about these topics).

Programs

We offer a wide range of programs at Monarch House including communications and social skills programs for all ages. Here we discuss our social skills programs for children with autism and social skill development for children with autism. We also address an older (teen) demographic as well with social skills programs for young adults with autism.

In terms of communication strategies for children with autism we also offer programs including non-verbal communication strategies for children with autism and communication skills for children with autism

Autism Services

We offer a myriad of services for children and adults with neurodivergence starting with an autism assessment to know for sure if your child or loved one is on the ASD spectrum, and early autism intervention if they are. We also hold workshops and teach daily living skills for children with autism as well as daily living skills for adults with autism. Community involvement is an important part of our inclusive philosophy, so we also offer services around community integration for children with autism and community outings for children with autism. When it comes to your child’s education, we also have occupational therapists on staff that can help with educational services for children with autism and individualized education plans.

Food

One of the topics that we have covered in depth is that of food. Nutrition for autistic children and healthy eating habits for children with autism are common concerns when it comes to dealing with what can be a fussy palate. We also look into food tolerance for children with autism and healthy food choices for children with autism to give you a variety of dining options and suggestions as to how to broaden their dietary horizons.

Mood

Emotional regulation for children with autism is a topic that we go into detail about over several of our posts. Sensory processing for children with autism is a big part of being a parent and/or caregiver and managing sensory overload for children with autism is one of the services that we offer at Monarch House to help you. This can be very useful in dealing with temper tantrums in children with autism and any big changes in routine

Sleep

Another topic we delve into is sleep difficulties in children with autism. One way that we suggest to nip sleep disturbances in the bud is to spend some time with your child right before bed, and read to them if you can. We even offer some storytime strategies for children with autism in this post.

General

There are many myths and facts about children with autism that you’re going to come across as a parent of a neurodivergent child. We look to set the record straight with some (hopefully) helpful articles on toilet training for children with autism, bullying strategies for children with autism, and the importance of play for children with autism  (including playground etiquette for children with autism). We also talk about the trials and tribulations of getting out of the house with some public transit tips for children with autism, ways to foster inclusion in the community for children with autism, and helpful tips when it comes to traveling with children with autism.

Family

At Monarch House we believe that every child belongs. In fact, the concept of You Belong is at the core of everything we do. This extends beyond just the child, it embraces the whole family, and every developmental level. We work with autism in toddlers, teens with autism, and the parents of children with autism, the siblings of children with autism, and even the grandparents of children with autism. We offer services for supporting siblings of children with autism and programs for self care for parents of children with autism. Here we have suggestions on family day activities for children with autism and holidays with children with autism

Home

While Monarch House offers a safe, comfortable, and inclusive base for your child to thrive, the reality is that they are going to be spending most of their time at home, with you. For that reason we have touched on topics such as how to create an environment autism friendly home, how to go about establishing routines at home for children with autism, and other routines at home you can put in place. Some other parenting strategies for children with autism we can provide are ways to foster play skill development at home for children with autism and our occupational therapist can work with you to help cultivate independence in children with autism at home, by getting them to be involved in tasks such as food prep, cleaning, and self-care.

Overall, we hope you find this plethora of content about our autism services and the autism therapies that we offer to be very useful towards fostering a sense of well-being and independence in your child with autism.
